Make malted milk biscuits
These delicious malted milk biscuits are very similar to the Parle-G biscuits that are popular in India and enjoyed by Lena in Bringing Back Kay-Kay.
Makes 30 biscuits
You will need:
- 125g unsalted butter, softened
- 125g caster sugar
- 3 tbsp golden syrup
- 1 egg
- 350g plain flour
- 50g malted milk powder, e.g. Ovaltine or Horlicks
- ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
1. Preheat the oven to 180C and line two baking trays with baking paper.
2. Put the butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat together using a handheld electric mixer.
3. Add the golden syrup and egg to the mixture and beat to combine.
4. Add the flour, malted milk powder and bicarbonate of soda and mix together until you have a large ball of dough.
5. Put the dough between two pieces of baking paper and use a rolling pin to roll out until the dough is the thickness of a £1 coin.
6. Remove the baking paper and cut the dough into rectangles approximately 7cm x 4cm. Use the edge of a knife to flute the edges.
7. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking trays and bake for 10-12 minutes.
8. Remove from the oven and leave to cool before serving.
