A gripping mythical mystery for young readers aged 12+
Older children will be completely absorbed by The Mermaid Call by Alex Cotter and an accompanying activity pack, which we created for Parrot Street Book Club subscribers in July 2022.
“This book combines myths and legends with a real-world setting and hugely relatable characters that young teens and tweens will really connect with. We were also struck by the book's important message about being true to yourself.”~Sarah
About the book
Vivien is never going to win the Mermaid Crown and she knows it. Does she care? Who wants to be rewarded just for being pretty anyway? So she joins Alice on her quest to find the legendary mermaid of the lake instead, famous for her dark power. But as the legend starts to unravel, it reveals an ugly truth. And leads the girls into terrible, watery danger. When the truth comes out, will it bring freedom or an awful retribution?

About Parrot Street Book Club subscriptions
We are a monthly book subscription by post for children aged 5 to 14, focused on helping families discover new and different chapter books.
This title was sent to subscribers in the Macaw reading group, aged roughly 12 to 14, who need books that feel grown-up but aren’t quite ready for all young adult books.
