Our Macaw subscription boxes are shipped on the 14th of each month. Your first letterbox-friendly parcel will arrive midway through the month after you set up the subscription.

To get subscribers excited in the meantime, we send out a welcome pack containing a welcome note, pencil, bookmark and embroidered patch within 2 working days of receiving your order.

All our rolling subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each term for your convenience. You can opt to stop the renewal at any time before the payment is taken via your account page or by email to us.

Shipping to the UK is included in the subscription price.

We also ship to international destinations - additional shipping charges will be added at checkout.

Our Macaw subscription is perfectly pitched for this age group, helping kids to keep enjoying high-quality books whilst respecting that their reading habits have matured.

Subscribers are offered the choice between two great books each month, reflecting their growing independence and giving them the opportunity to chart their own reading adventure.

However, you may like to super-size the subscription and opt to receive both books every month (select ‘Two books’ above).

What's in each monthly book subscription box?

Chapter book(s)

For this age group we know that the book is the main event. We pick books that we feel sit comfortably between the middle grade (usually aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds) and young adult categories.

The books are challenging and thought-provoking with more complex themes than most middle grade novels but without focusing too much on the teenage angst and romantic struggles common in YA books.

Books in this category are typically over 200 pages in length with no illustrations.

Activity pack

Each book comes with book club-style questions, activity ideas, jokes and exclusive author content, along with stickers and a review card.

There is also additional and exclusive online content to accompany each book.

For every box we ship to a subscriber we also make a donation of 50p to UK literacy charity Coram Beanstalk. We are proud to support the amazing work they do placing reading helpers in schools across the UK.

Managing the subscription

Our monthly book choices are shared in an email to the account holder on 2nd of the month. You simply need to click a button to pick your book.

Additionally, we can send this email (plus notification of dispatch and the subscriber exclusive competition) to the child if they have an email address.

You will be able to share the child’s email address after the subscription has been set up.

TWO CHILDREN OPTION

Buying for siblings?

Our 'Two children' option is only suitable when both children are in the same reading group.

Every parcel will be addressed to them both and they will receive two of everything except the book itself which can be shared.

If the siblings are in different reading groups they will each need a separate subscription so that they can receive books that are suitable for their reading and interest level.

For guidance, we say that our Parakeets are roughly 5 to 8, Cockatoos 8 to 12 and Macaws 12 to 14 years old.
