Create a newspaper collage
You will need:
- Two sheets of paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Old newspapers
- Glue
- Watercolour paint (optional)
- Pen (optional)
1. Start by thinking about what you’d like your final collage to look like. We decided on a single subject against a contrasting background.
2. Roughly sketch the outline of the main part of your collage onto one of the sheets of paper.
3. Cut out the main image
4. Rip some of the newspaper into small pieces. We opted to use the feathery edge that can be created by ripping as part of our design.
5. Working methodically, taking into account the different parts of your main image, slowly cover it by glueing and layers the newspaper pieces.
6. Next, create the background on the second piece of paper. We chose to use scissors to cut long strips of paper in contrast to the feathery pieces used on our bird.
7. Glue down the background pieces according to your design.
8. You may choose to add wash of watercolour paint to your background as we did, leave it plain or do something else entirely!
9. Once you’re happy that your background is finished and dry, glue the main image down onto it.
10. We then chose to add a few final details with pen. Perhaps you'll choose to sign your artwork too?!
