Giving back by supporting UK literacy charities this Christmas
Since we set up our business, we’ve been keen to ensure that it gives back to the wider community and are proud to be supporters of Coram Beanstalk. For every box that we ship to a subscriber, we make a donation to this fantastic charity which supports children who have fallen behind their peers in reading. We share a fundamental belief that:
Readers achieve their potential: everyone deserves this
2020 has been a challenging year for us all and perhaps those with the least have suffered the most. But we have also seen a number of positives come out of this crisis – at a local level, the sense of coming together as a community has been really moving. Across our social media channels, we’ve seen far more people talk about giving priority to what really matters, supporting their communities and being more mindful of how and where they spend their money.
With this in mind, here’s a round up of the ways in which two of our favourite literacy charities – Coram Beantalk and BookTrust – are encouraging us to make a difference this Christmas:
Virtual Office Fundraising
Office party cancelled? Secret Santa a logistical nightmare with everyone working from home? Why not consider asking everyone to donate the money they would have otherwise spent to Coram Beanstalk? Or how about donning a Christmas jumper for Zoom calls and donating £2 to charity? Find out more here.
Fun runs to raise funds
Coram Beanstalk are running a Virtual Santa Dash. Complete this 5k run between now and 25th December, ideally in festive fancy dress, and raise money whilst having fun. Full details about registration, fundraising targets and rewards here.
Santa in the City is an annual 5K race that usually involves 1000s of Santas taking to the streets. A mass race isn’t possible this year, but you can still take part in the event from home and opt to join Team Coram Beanstalk in order to raise funds for them. Register here.
Raise money whilst buying books and more
Coram Beanstalk have a bookshop page on Bookshop.org and any sale of a book means a donation of 10% commission straight to the charity and a matching 10% to independent bookshops!
Donate a book to a vulnerable child
The BookTrust Christmas appeal raises money to send book parcels to over 14,000 children who are vulnerable or in care in the UK. A £10 donation ensures one child receives a book, a special letter, festive poster and bookmark by David McKee.
