A fast-paced sci-fi adventure for young readers aged 12+
Readers will be taken on an action-packed ride with 21% Monster by P.J. Canning and an accompanying activity pack, which we created for Parrot Street Book Club subscribers in August 2022.
“We were completely hooked by this high-octane page-turner - and also very moved by the story of Darren Devlin, a misunderstood and sensitive young teenager who we think many readers will relate to.”~Sarah
About the book
When Darren Devlin is arrested for destroying his school with his bare hands, it's not just the police who are after him. Enter Marek Masters, 14 years old, 19% alien, and the most intelligent, most wanted "almost human" alive. Marek is here to tell Darren the truth - he is 21% monster, and together they must take down the secret organisation that created them.
Darren and Marek are wanted, powerful and dangerous. And now it's payback time.
About the author
P.J. Canning has a PhD in Chemistry and works in Cambridge. He is married with three children, all of whom are brutal critics of his work. P.J. heard someone say "write about what you know", but he prefers to write about aliens and monsters instead. 21% Monster is his first novel.

About Parrot Street Book Club subscriptions
We are a monthly book subscription by post for children aged 5 to 14, focused on helping families discover new and different chapter books.
This title was sent to subscribers in the Macaw reading group, aged roughly 12 to 14, who need books that feel grown-up but aren’t quite ready for all young adult books.
