Make an origami dog bookmark
You will need:
- A square of paper
- A pen
1. Fold the paper in half diagonally and unfold. Repeat with the other diagonal and unfold.
2. Bring one corner into the middle and create a sharp fold. Repeat with the opposite corner.
3. Turn the paper over and the fold the straight edge up to the middle line, allowing the corner to pop out from the other side. Create a sharp crease and then repeat with the other straight edge.
4. Fold the shape in half horizontally by bringing the top down to meet the bottom. Make sure the edges and corners are lining up nicely and create a sharp fold.
5. Lift just the top layer from the bottom and fold it up so that the point reaches the very top of the shape. Create a sharp crease.
6. Take the right-hand edge of the layer you folded in step 5 and bring it down so that it runs along the middle line. Create a sharp crease and then unfold. Repeat with the left-hand edge.
7. Put your finger into the little pocket you’ve created on the right-hand side. Open the pocket out so that you can then fold the paper down flat with a small triangle protruding from the bottom of the layer. Repeat on the other side.
8. Ease the paper that’s left in the middle of the shape so that it collapses down into a diamond. Make sure you create sharp folds and a nice point at the top.
9. Fold the top and bottom of the diamond underneath so you’re left with a elongated hexagon shape.
10. Fold the bottom points of the triangles you made in step 7 underneath.
11. Create fold in the triangles sticking out from each side of the head so that they resemble floppy ears.
12. Finally, use a pen to colour in the nose, add eyes and any other details your dog needs.
13. When you’re ready to mark a page, slide the bookmark over the top of the page so that your dog’s head is on one side and the rest of the bookmark is on the other!
