Finished Mix 'n' Match Emojis

You will need:

  • A square of paper
  • A pencil
  • A glass or lid
  • Coloured pens or pencils

Square of paper folded diagonally
1. Fold the paper in half diagonally, crease and then unfold. Repeat with the other diagonal.
Corners folded into the centre
2. Fold each corner into the centre, crease and then unfold.
Paper turned over with multiple creases
3. Turn the paper over.
Folding bottom edge up to the middle
4. Fold the bottom edge of the paper up so that it meets the centre line, crease and unfold. Repeat with the other 3 edges.
Left and right edges folded in
5. Fold the left-hand edge of the paper in so that it meets the centre line. Repeat with the right-hand edge.
Following creases to fold up the bottom edge
6. Pick up the bottom layer of paper along the bottom edge. Move it towards the middle and allow the paper to fold up along the crease lines you’ve made in previous steps.
Finished square shape with multiple layers
7. Repeat step 6 with the top edge and you will end up with a square shape comprised of many layers.
Drawing around a glass for a circle
8. Place your glass or lid in the centre of the square and draw around it with a pencil.
9. You will notice that you can lift flaps in each quarter of the circle to reveal another surface (which can become part of an emoji face).
10. Working methodically, lift just one flap at a time, replace the glass and draw around that quarter of the circle so that it matches up with the previous one. You want to eventually be able to flick any one of the flaps and create a complete emoji face.
First emoji face
11. Return all the flaps to their matching positions and draw the details of your first emoji face. We’d suggest putting one eye in each of the upper quarters of the circle.
12. Flick over the flaps to reveal your second circle and draw another face. You might like to try and line the mouth up with the previous one – it’s up to you.
13. Repeat step 12 with the final circle.
14. Finally, colour in your emoji faces.
