Earlier today we discovered that Parrot Street Book Club was included in the Evening Standard’s 10 Best kids’ subscription boxes for 2022, alongside market-leading subscriptions like ToucanBox and KiwiCo. Of course we think our children’s book boxes are fantastic monthly subscription for all families with children aged 5 to 14 but that doesn’t mean we’re not thrilled whenever our business is featured in a newspaper or magazine’s line-up of best subscription boxes.
There’s a new bird on the block! We are excited to be launching a new book subscription box for young readers aged 12+. We’ve always wanted our book club to grow as our subscribers get older and as my own son prepares to head off to secondary school, now feels like the right time. Here’s why…
We've always found being part of our local small business community incredibly valuable. Marieke Syed is the founder of SNACKZILLA and lives just a few streets away. We were excited to talk with Marieke about her business, her experience of lockdown and the importance of reading for her family.
Since we set up our business, we’ve been keen to ensure that it gives back to the wider community and are proud to be supporters of Coram Beanstalk. For every box that we ship to a subscriber, we make a donation to this fantastic charity which supports children who have fallen behind their peers in reading. 2020 has been a challenging year for us all and perhaps those with the least have suffered the most. Here’s a round up of the ways in which two of our favourite literacy charities – Coram Beantalk and BookTrust – are encouraging us to make a difference this Christmas
We were thrilled earlier this week to be revealed as one of the winners at this year’s Junior Design Awards #JDA20. We’re also delighted to have been included in a few Christmas gift guides recently. Platinum magazine picked us out as a top gift recommendation for the grandkids in a feature on ethical Christmas giving in their December 2020 issue. What a fantastic early Christmas present for this small business!
It’s been a very strange and unsettling week, but as we all adjust to our new normal, we wanted to reassure our subscribers that it is business as usual at Parrot Street HQ.
This month marks the second anniversary of our first boxes being shipped and we can’t help but reflect on just how far we’ve come in the last two years. It’s been quite a ride!
Books make the BEST gifts! Not only that, but our packs, which include a brilliant children’s book and accompanying activity pack, make perfect stocking fillers. If you’d like to get your hands on one, check out this list of shopping events that we’ll be at over the next few weeks.
We’re passionate about the transformative power of reading and believe that every child should be a reader. So we have been clear from the outset that ours should be a small business with a big social conscience.
We were thrilled to be featured in the recent Little London Schools Guide and thought it would be nice to do a round-up of some of the other great articles about books and reading that it included.
We’ve spent 4 full days outside at events over the past month and we’re extremely grateful that the weather was so kind to us. There’s no doubt that being so busy made navigating all the usual end of term commitments with the kids that much trickier. But we’re so glad we did it and had great fun in the process.
One of the things that makes our kids book subscription unique is that there is more to it than just books. We also believe there’s more we can do to get kids thinking and engaging more deeply with what they’re reading. Our carefully curated monthly parcels are designed to take the reading experience beyond the page.
